Frequently Asked Questions

How did this start?

This conversation has been ongoing for many years but the formal process started 3 years ago when the EAA Board appointed a Certification Committee to explore the feasibility of a certificate program in educational audiology.

Where do I register?

At the American Board of Audiology: ABA Certificate Program Page.

Is this certificate through EAA or ABA?

This is a collaboration between EAA and ABA. ABA owns and administers the program; EAA provides the content.

Is this only available to Audiologists?

Yes, this is for Audiologists. AuD students may take the course (with proof of student status) but will not be given the certificate until successful completion of the AuD program and a state license to practice audiology has been obtained.

How long will it take to complete the certificate?

The program format is asynchronous and, if desired, can be completed in a few days but must be completed within 1 year from registration. Module 1 must be completed first; thereafter the modules can be completed in any order. Each module consists of about 2.5–3 hours of recorded lecture and Handbook chapter readings (4th edition).

Do you have to be a member of AAA to receive the Member Rate?

You do NOT need to be an AAA member. The member rate is available to all AAA, ABA, and/or EAA members. Non-members of either organization can take the certificate program for an additional cost.

How much will it cost?

$600 (AAA members, EAA members, ABA certificants); $800 for others. Single Module registration (no certificate): $100 for members; $130 for others.

EAA members who are not AAA members can receive the member discount by sending a request to [email protected] to obtain a coupon code prior to completing registration. The Educational Audiology Handbook 4th ed — EAA members receive a 25% discount; discount code can be found in the Member Center.

Am I required to get the certificate?

No one is required to obtain this certificate. It was developed to assist Educational Audiologists in having the fundamental skills to provide school-based services.

Note: There are no provisions for "grandfathering."

Can I take stand-alone modules if I don't want to take the full course?

Yes, many experienced Educational Audiologists may choose to take select modules in areas where they want more information on best practices.

Can I get CEUs?

Yes, CEUs and professional development hours can be obtained. The full program awards 1.95 Tier 1 CEUs (0.25–0.3 CEUs per module).

How often do I need to take these modules?

This is a certificate program, not a certification. There is no need to "re-qualify" for the certificate.

Do I need to pass an exam?

There is a 20-question assessment at the end of each module. A passing score is 17/20 (85%).

How many times can I watch the modules?

If you are working to obtain the certificate, you have access to the modules for a 12-month period in which you can review modules as frequently as desired. There is no time limit for single modules.
